Is a reboot of “The Nanny” starring Cardi B actually happening?

“The Nanny” star Fran Drescher told Entertainment Tonight that she has been in talks with Cardi’s team about reviving her character, Fran Fine, for a modern spin on the ‘90s sitcom. “That was just kind of laying out groundwork,” Drescher said of the meeting with Cardi’s team. “I do think she’s great, and she would be kinda like my top choice, if she’s disciplined to do this show every week. It can be a grind, but she’s got a baby now and it could be a very comfortable, lovely way to, you know, work, be seen worldwide, and still do mini-concert tours when you’re on hiatus.”

Drescher first began talks of the idea of Cardi starring in a newer version of the series late last year. Cardi has reportedly said that she is open to the idea. And while Drescher says she and the rapper have not spoken yet, the actress says that Cardi “compares herself to me a lot in photos.”

The actress has also made it clear that she is only interested in a reboot of the series. “We would have to write it for somebody else, which I would be excited to do actually,” she said. “I could play Sylvia, the mom. And John Leguizamo could play [Fran’s dad], Morty. So, you know, we’ll see. There’s a lot of opportunities to do something fantastic with it and bring it right into the 21st century.”

Cardi B starring in a reboot of “The Nanny” would not be her breakout-acting role. Actually, the Bronx rapper appears alongside Jennifer Lopez in their new film Hustlers. J. Lo recently spoke of working with Cardi and said that despite it being her first acting role, she was a natural. “She’s such a natural at what she does,” said the actress on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” “This was so suited to her. She really knew this world and I told her, ‘You just have to be the person that you were when I first started looking at you on Instagram. That girl, that’s the girl that we need.’ And she was like, ‘OK.’ She knew exactly what to do.”
