If Young M.A’s recent freestyle is a glimpse of what’s to come on her upcoming album, it’s safe to say that it’s worthwhile.

While stopping by Funk Flex’s studio at HOT 97 on Wednesday (Sept. 18), Young M.A delivered a freestyle that has fans excited for her upcoming album, Herstory in the Making. For her bars, the Brooklyn emcee spits about being overlooked, her hard work over the years and more.

“Tryna go head up with me, car collision /I can murder any of you rapper from start to finish / My drink devil, but I get high likes God’s position / When life threw me a rod, n—a, I started fishing / My palms started itching, got that drive like when you start the engine / I’m a GOAT, but I’m hardly mentioned,” she spits.

For her upcoming project, Young M.A promises that her fans will see her versatility. “You’re gonna get the truth. You’re gonna get the cocky joints, the slick talk joints where I talk my talk, but then I’m gonna get personal. Real personal. That’s why this album is called Herstory In The Making because it’s about all sides of me.”

In addition to stopping by Funk Flex, Young M.A recently sat down for an extensive interview with Jason Lee. During their conversation, the 27-year-old expressed her view on the LGBTQ umbrella and why she doesn’t identify with labels.

“First of all, female rappers alone seem to be the only ones in a box because you don’t say ‘male rapper,’ she said. “You really don’t…When you see a male rapper you don’t call him a ‘male rapper,’ you call him a rapper. And with the female rapper, it seems like the female rap thing is more glorified.”

This year, Young M.A hasn’t been the only rapper to address sexuality in the hip hop community. Back in June, Lil Nas X openly came out as gay for the last day of LGBTQ Pride Month.
