Despite her impulsive retirement claims, Nicki Minaj might still release a new album.

In an interview published by Elle on Wednesday (Sept. 18), the New York rapper stated that she is working on her album. It’s unclear whether the interview took place before or after Minaj’s retirement announcement.

“It’s probably the most excited I’ve been about an album release in a really long time,” she said during the interview. “I’m happy that we’re not making my fans wait for another album like I’ve done in the past.” Earlier this month, Minaj issued an apology to the Barbz for her impulsive tweet. In addition to that, she promised to explain her decision on an upcoming episode of Queen Radio.

“I’m still right here,” Minaj wrote. “Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”

As for the announcement, it took many people by surprise, to say the least. The 36-year-old stated that she was retiring from music to start a family with her beau, Kenneth Petty. “I’m still right here,” Minaj wrote. “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE,” Minaj posted to Twitter.

In other Nicki Minaj-related news, she recently collaborated with Fendi. The “Hot Girl Summer” collaborator is proud to create a clothing line that she would spend her money on. “When I was doing my 9-to-5,” she says, “this is something that I would have saved up for.”
