On Monday evening (Sept. 16), Beyoncé’s Making The Gift special premiered on ABC.

During the special, Beyoncé unveiled the creative process behind The Lion King: The Gift. In addition to that, Bey revealed intimate family moments between her 7-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter and two-year-old twins, Rumi and Sir Carter. Back in April, the twins briefly made a cameo in Bey’s Netflix documentary, Homecoming.

On the 12-track LP, Beyoncé sang about a variety of topics. On the highly publicized track, “Brown Skin Girl,” Beyonce stated that she was proud to make a song that encourages self-love.

“When I see fathers singing ‘Brown Skin Girl’ to their daughters, to know that my daughter can have the same opportunities and feel confident and feel like she doesn’t have to take her braids down and she can comb her afro out and she can glisten in her brown skin… That is why I make music.”

As Bey previously stated, the soundtrack is a love letter to Africa. “Visiting countries in Africa, it’s always an emotional experience for me. It feels like I’m making peace with a part of me that’s yearning for my ancestral connection. I was blessed to be able to relive some of the experiences that I’ve been very fortunate to have over the years with my entire family.”

Back in July, the mother-of-three released the visual to “Spirit,” which features Blue Ivy. While speaking on the video, the 38-year-old aimed to capture Africa’s beauty. “The concept of the video is to show how God is the painter and natural beauty in nature needs no art direction,” she said. “It’s the beauty of color, the beauty of melanin, the beauty of tradition.” Beyoncé also explained that Africa inspired her. “It was important that we weren’t just inspired by Africa but that we actually included and learned from the motherland.”
