Last month, authorities arrested Patrick Crusius after he gunned down more than 20 people at a Walmart in El Paso. According to Fox News, the 21-year-old was indicted on Thursday (Sept. 12) on a capital murder charge.
Moving forward, prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Crusius who remains behind bars without bond. Following the indictment, Crusius’ family issued a statement through their lawyer. “It is important to respect the rule of law, including the grand jury’s decision and the district attorney’s office,” the statement read. “There is a legal path forward that will now allow justice to become clear.”
Understandably, many expressed their anger towards the situation following the mass shootings that took place. Rihanna directed her anger towards President Donald Trump in a very-detailed Instagram caption. “Imagine a world where it’s easier to get an AK-47 than a VISA!” she pointed out. “Imagine a world where they build a wall to keep terrorists IN AMERICA!!! My prayers and deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all the victims from Texas, California, and Ohio! I’m so sorry for your loss! Nobody deserves to die like this! NOBODY!”
Although many people directed their anger towards the POTUS, Trump stated that violence is caused by the glorification of video games. “We must stop the glorification of violence in our society,” Trump said. “This includes the gruesome and grizzly video games that are now commonplace. It is too easy today for troubled youth to surround themselves with a culture that celebrates violence.”
He continued, “We must stop or substantially reduce this and it has to begin immediately. Cultural change is hard. But each of us can choose to build a culture that celebrates the inherent worth and dignity of every human life. That’s what we have to do.”
