After R. Kelly was a no-show for his court hearing on Thursday (Sept. 12), a Minnesota judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

As per TMZ, the court hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Hennepin County Court. Kelly is currently facing two charges, which includes engaging in prostitution with someone under 18 years old and hiring someone for sexual contact. After the news went viral regarding Kelly’s arrest warrant, his attorney, Steve Greenberg, did some damage control. “They never came to get him, wtf was he supposed to do, telepathically transport himself?” Greenberg said.

Naturally, this isn’t the first time that Greenberg has issued a statement on Kelly’s behalf. While his client was reportedly being held in solitary confinement, Greenberg stated that the musician was having a tough time.

“He’s also a spiritual guy, has a Bible with him in his cell, but he can’t read it. It’s basically there for comfort,” Greenberg added. “Now he’s been placed in the MCC’s ‘SHU’ — a cell in solitary confinement away from the jail population and is constantly being moved from cell to cell. He has only the guards to talk to.”

Although Greenberg has done his best to aid with Kelly’s case, it appears that Kelly isn’t happy with his efforts. As previously reported, Kelly is looking for ways to earn money to recruit Michael Jackson’s previous lawyer, Tom Mesereau. After having a four-hour meeting, Kelly is confident that Mesereau would be able to help with his case.

Following the news that Kelly’s trial date would be held in April, the 52-year-old was moved to general population. Reportedly, Kelly doesn’t mind general population because his Chicago inmates consider him a “legend.” Next week, Kelly will have another arraignment, which is slated for Sept. 18.
