Following Nicki Minaj’s explosive retirement announcement, many expressed their thoughts on the situation including New Jersey rapper, Queen Latifah.

While speaking to TMZ, Latifah stated that she was surprised to learn the news regarding Minaj’s retirement. Speaking on the situation in more detail, Latifah reasons that Minaj must be enjoying her love life right now. Despite the announcement, Latifah believes that the New York rapper will make a comeback when she’s ready.

“She must be in love and happy,” Queen Latifah said to TMZ. “Let her live. She’s been grinding for a long time. Once you’re a rapper, you’ll always be a rapper,” Latifah said. “She’ll be back. Let her live first. Let her live her life first.”

Last week, Minaj shared to Twitter that she was retiring to start a family with her beau, Kenneth Petty. Originally, Minaj stated that she would get married first then release a follow-up album to her 2018 project, Queen. “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE,” Minaj posted to Twitter.

After seeing her fans’ reactions, Minaj apologized for being insensitive. Later on, Minaj will provide more details regarding her retirement during an upcoming episode of Queen Radio. “I’m still right here,” Minaj wrote. “Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”

In other Queen Latifah-related news, the 49-year-old actress secured the role of Ursula in ABC’s live concert version of The Little Mermaid. Last month, Latifah shared the exciting news on Instagram. “Fortunately I know a little magic.’ Excited to be a part of The Wonderful World of Disney Presents The Little Mermaid Live! #Ursula #TheLittleMermaid#TeamSeaWitch,” she wrote as her Instagram caption.
