It looks like Nipsey Hussle’s estate is facing some legal trouble.
Singer Tasleema Yasin claims that she wrote and performed a vocal phrase used throughout Hussle’s track “Hussle & Motivate.” According to TMZ, the court documents state that Yasin’s voice is featured in a countermelody, which she sang in her higher register. In addition to that, Yasin’s voice can be heard on the track’s chorus. Although Yasin doesn’t state how much she’s owed, she’s looking to receive both co-author and performance funds.
Back in February of 2018, Hussle released the DO Speaks, Street Symphony and Brody Brown-produced track, which was also featured on his debut album, The Victory Lap. The track also utilized a sample from JAY-Z’s “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem).”
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that Hussle’s estate has faced legal issues following his passing in March. Last month, AMEX filed a creditor’s claim against the slain rapper’s estate. “The Decedent purchased goods and/or services in the amount of $46,930.67,” the company wrote. Secondly, Nip’s estate faced another creditor’s claim from Paramount Recording Group in which the company was seeking $32,000 from a 2012 judgment.
Despite some legal matters, Hussle’s family and friends are doing their best to keep the “Dedication” spitter’s memory alive. More recently, Lauren London announced that Hussle’s collaboration with PUMA will be out sooner than later. In her lengthy Instagram post, London stated that the father-of-two put his blood, sweat and tears into making the collection worthwhile.
“Our team is proud to announce that our first collaborative capsule with Puma drops on September 5th 2019,” the post begins. “Nipsey spearheaded this project from concept to final product over the course of last year, flying to meetings, reviewing samples, bringing in material references he liked, and most importantly ensuring that it reflected his style authentically with no compromise.”
