Earlier today (Sept. 4), R. Kelly appeared in court where he learned the date of his pending trial.

According to Fox News, a date has been set for April 27. Kelly is facing federal charges for child pornography and obstruction of justice. After announcing the trial date, the judge stated that the date could be changed since the 52-year-old singer has similar cases in three other judicial districts. Steve Greenberg, Kelly’s attorney, argued that an April date is not enough time to prepare for the trial. Prosecutor Angel Krull believes that the trial will last a total of three weeks. As for his next hearing, Kelly is expected to appear in court on Sept. 18.

Two days ago, we reported that Kelly’s alleged girlfriends, Jocelyn Savage and Azriel Clary, were looking into projects that would help with the singer’s financial woes. As of right now, the two ladies are looking into a potential book deal with hopes of a big payoff. In addition to that, Savage and Clary are trying to nail paid interviews.

Although Steve Greenberg continues to defend his client, Kelly is looking to replace him sooner than later. Last month, Kelly met with Tom Mesereau for a four-hour meeting. The Trapped in the Closet singer will recruit the well-known attorney to his defense team once his finances are in order.

Two months ago, Lifetime announced their plan to release another explosive follow-up to “Surviving R. Kelly.” The upcoming four-hour documentary entitled “Surviving R. Kelly: The Aftermath” will include interviews with those who claim to be new survivors. According to CNN, psychologists and experts will also be involved in the case. In the past, Kelly made it quite clear that he wasn’t fond of the claims made by the alleged victims.

“How stupid would it be for me, with my crazy past and what I’ve been through – oh right, now I just think I need to be monster, and hold girls against their will, chain them up in my basement, and don’t let them eat, don’t let them out, unless they need some shoes down the street from their uncle!” Kelly said during an interview with Gayle King.
