SZA has received a massive social media round of applause for helping a fan pay for chemo and get a new kidney.
After Venture Communications CEO Arlene Dickinson asked via Twitter, “What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you,” one of SZA’s fans responded and shared that the singer offered help during her illness. “SZA gave me her #, got me into two concerts of hers free & on tour bus, sent me & my wife to Universal Studios before I started chemo, helped me pay for chemo, donated $ (which will remain undisclosed), shared my fundraiser several times, & helped find me a kidney,” the fan, whose Twitter handle is @leahjavon, wrote.
A 2017 tweet from SZA has also resurfaced, where the singer asked her many followers to assist her in finding someone who was a blood type match for the fan and would consider donating a kidney and a liver. “She could die. My brave bean,” SZA said at the time.
The TDE singer tweeted, “morning my loves! my angel @leahjavon is now experiencing multiple organ failure and is in DESPERATE need of a kidney AND liver! if u live in the Dallas area and have O- O+ B+ or B- blood type PLEASE test to be a match !”
Following Leah’s tweet, SZA received an immense amount of praise for her kindness and generosity.
The Ctrl singer isn’t foreign to being a catalyst for change and making a difference. Back in May, she had an unpleasant experience at a Sephora location in California. SZA took to Twitter and alluded to being a victim of racial profiling. “Lmao Sandy Sephora location 614 Calabasas called security to make sure I wasn’t stealing,” she explained. “We had a long talk. U have a blessed day Sandy.”
She added in a follow-up tweet, “Can a b—h cop her fenty in peace er whut.”
A month later, on June 5, Sephora closed stores in the U.S., distribution centers and their corporate office for the day to conduct a diversity training workshop for its employees.
“We have been informed of an incident at our Calabasas store and in addition to reaching out to SZA directly, we are gathering more information about the incident in order to take the proper next steps,” Sephora said in a statement emailed to Reuters. “We take complaints like this very seriously, profiling on the basis of race is not tolerated at Sephora.”
