After securing the No. 1 spot for 19 weeks, Lil Nas X’s breakthrough hit, “Old Town Road” has officially been dethroned.

In an Instagram post published yesterday (Aug. 19), the 20-year-old rapper admitted that he lost the throne to music’s newcomer Billie Eilish. “This is the first week in 5 months old town road hasn’t been number 1,” Lil Nas wrote. “This journey had taught me so much! can’t wait for y’all to see what’s next. panini official music video coming soon. i love y’all!!!”

In an effort to not take the loss personally, Lil Nas made a joke about the situation. While on Twitter, Lil Nas posted a gif of Squidward begging for money. The 7 rapper jokingly said that he would become Squidward for losing the No. 1 spot. “Me when columbia drop me from the label because billie eilish took the number 1 spot,” he wrote.

In hindsight, “Old Town Road” will forever go down in history. Lil Nas pointed out that the record has a thing for birthdays. “Old town road was made on the producer kio’s birthday, went number one on my birthday, and left number one the week of billy ray’s birthday,” he wrote.

Last month, we reported that “Old Town Road,” spent 17 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart making it the longest-running No. 1 in the chart’s history. The track broke the record first set by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day,” which ran for a total of 16 weeks.

Later this month, Lil Nas X will have a lot to celebrate. Currently, he is nominated for eight awards at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Lil Nas’ nominations include Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hop, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Art Direction.
