R. Kelly having trouble recruiting Michael Jackson's attorney to his team

R. Kelly wants a strong team behind him to help with the charges that he’s currently facing. As a result, the singer is looking to recruit Michael Jackson’s attorney, Tom Mesereau.

According to TMZ, Kelly met with Mesereau for a four-hour meeting. Although Mesereau hasn’t agreed to represent the singer, there are chances that it may very well happen. Unfortunately, Kelly doesn’t have the funds. Understandably, Mesereau might be worth the hefty bill. In addition to helping with Michael Jackson’s 2005 court case, Mesereau also scored a not guilty verdict for an accused wife murderer, Robert Blake.

The media outlet also reports that the Trapped in the Closet singer is looking to let go of his current attorney, Steve Greenberg. Kelly feels as though members of his team care more about media attention rather than helping with his case. In a recent interview, Greenburg spoke highly of his client.

“I’ve seen him get very emotional,” Greenberg said when speaking on Kelly. “He’s dealing with a lot of stories that have been made up. He’s not a fighter. I’ve seen him cry when he talks about the situation.”

While speaking with The Chicago Sun-Times, Greenberg explained that Kelly is having a rather difficult time in solitary confinement. “He’s also a spiritual guy, has a Bible with him in his cell, but he can’t read it. It’s basically there for comfort,” Greenberg added. “Now he’s been placed in the MCC’s ‘SHU’ — a cell in solitary confinement away from the jail population and is constantly being moved from cell to cell. He has only the guards to talk to.”

More recently, Kelly was charged with two sex crime charges in Minnesota. Kelly’s accuser, Gloria Allred, claims that the musician “helped her out of her clothing” and paid her money to dance while she was a minor. If convicted, Kelly faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
