A$AP Rocky’s trial has begun in Sweden.

The New York rapper has pleaded not guilty today (July 30), as per TMZ. A$AP’s lawyer informed the judge that Rocky was not the one who kicked or punched the alleged victim while he was on the ground. The lawyer also stated that Rocky only attacked the victim because he feared for his bodyguard’s life. This coincides with the viral video where the alleged victim is seen striking the bodyguard in the face with his headphones. The trial has the possibility of continuing on for two more days.

Last week, we reported that Rocky was charged with assault and is looking at up to two years in Swedish prison. His alleged victim, Mustafa Jafari, was cleared of all charges despite having an assault criminal record. Interestingly enough, it has come to light that one of the men testifying against Rocky is currently facing his own legal trouble. The witness, Dawod Hosseini, was arrested for theft last month for stealing two high-priced jackets from a Swedish clothing store. At the time of his arrest, police found a knife on Hosseini.

As the case continues to unfold in the media, many have responded with their disappointment. President Donald Trump expressed his sympathy over the matter.

“Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for being unable to act. Sweden has let our African American Community down in the United States. I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. Treat Americans fairly! #FreeRocky,“ he wrote on Twitter.

Sadly, Sweden is adamant that they will not allow any outsiders to influence their decision despite many “Free Rocky” movements that have been created.

“The Swedish judicial system is completely independent and does not take into consideration outside pressure from politicians or others,” a spokesman for the Swedish prosecution authority told CNN.
