Rapsody is set to release her new album 'Eve' to celebrate black women
The Grammy nominated rapper has laid low for two years and is ready to shake things up with ‘Eve,’ as she honors iconic black women throughout the project.
According to Jermaine Dupri and many other O.G.’s, great lyrical female rapper’s are as hard to find as a needle in a haystack these days. With that said, there are a few female emcee’s who stick out from the ordinary, and some who beg to differ. As female rapper’s continue to step up to bat, Rapsody leads the pack.
North Carolina native, Rapsody has announced her forthcoming album titled Eve. Slowly but surely establishing herself as a heavy hitter and respected artist in today’s rap game, Rapsody is determined to release one of her most meaningful body of work. The album is set to be released in August, but she has sporadically been teasing pieces of her intent for the project, since her announcement back in June. One tease that caught the attention of many was the symbol for the artwork to the album where Rapsody states in the caption of her Instagram post, “The upside down triangle is female, lunar, and symbolizes Mother.”
In hopes to celebrate and pay homage to the women who helped bring her up, the album will feature song-titles catered to icons like Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Serena Williams, Whoopi Goldberg and even adding a collaboration with one of the pioneers of hip hop, Queen Latifah. By the influences in her lyrics, it should come to no surprise that the foundation in which Rapsody keeps both of her feet on, is built up of a sisterhood and deep admiration for women supporting other women.
Another teaser that was posted on her social media was a glitchy clip with cut up footage of prominent women in politics, sports, music, and entertainment; intercut with an image of Rapsody looking like a goddess herself, placing the North Carolina rapper firmly within the pantheon of phenomenal women which Eve will celebrate. The video is accompanied by a short passage from the Bible in the caption: “Then the man—Adam—named his wife #Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live.”
Eve will serve as a follow-up record from her critically acclaimed LP Laila’s Wisdom, which was her first project release under Roc Nation where she broke barriers, becoming the first female emcee to sign with the label in 2016. The philosophy and her motto of “culture over everything” have always been, and continue to be the central messages that are carried throughout her projects.
