Lifetime plans to release another explosive follow-up to “Surviving R. Kelly.”
“Surviving R. Kelly: The Aftermath” is a four-hour documentary special that will include interviews with those who claim to be new survivors. CNN reports that psychologists and experts will also be involved in the case. This isn’t the first time that Lifetime has produced a follow-up to the docu-series that hit the world by storm in January.
Back in May, Lifetime released “Surviving R. Kelly: The Impact,” which was a two-hour special hosted by journalist Soledad O’Brien. The documentary focused on the cultural and global impact of the original docu-series.
Kelly’s reaction to the docu-series has not been positive, to say the least. The 52-year-old singer has threatened to sue Lifetime for their film. In addition to that, Kelly lashed out when asked about the allegations made in the series by CBS This Morning‘s Gayle King.
“How stupid would it be for me, with my crazy past and what I’ve been through – oh right, now I just think I need to be monster, and hold girls against their will, chain them up in my basement, and don’t let them eat, don’t let them out, unless they need some shoes down the street from their uncle!” Kelly said in response to the allegations made against him.
The news of the documentary comes at a critical time during Kelly’s ongoing case. He is currently facing 13 new federal charges including child pornography and obstruction of justice. The “Ignition” singer faces a maximum prison sentence of 195 years in Chicago and a minimum of 10 years in New York.
Despite the claims made in the documentary, Kelly’s girlfriends, Azriel Clary and Jocelyn Savage, continue to offer their support towards the entertainer. They both appeared for Kelly’s court hearing this month where he was denied bond. More recently, Clary and Savage shared a video on social media explaining their living situation.
