JAY-Z to produce new Netflix film 'The Harder They Fall'

JAY-Z has major things in the works. Hip-hop’s first billionaire is set to produce a new Netflix film, The Harder They Fall.

According to Collider, Jay will join forces with James Lassiter and Lawrence Bender on the production side. The Netflix film will be directed by Jeymes Samuel, who previously worked on The Great Gatsby soundtrack with JAY-Z. The film follows a man named Nat Love who discovers the man who killed his parents is being released from prison. Throughout the film, Love seeks revenge with the help of his friends.

Three years ago, The Harder They Fall went before cameras with Michael K. Williams, Wesley Snipes, Rosario Dawson, Erykah Badu, and Jesse Williams in the cast. This time around, Netflix will recruit a completely different team.

Earlier today, Meek Mill announced his joint business venture with Jay. Dream Chasers is a new record label with Jay’s Roc Nation. While speaking with Gayle King, the 49-year-old rapper stated that he and Meek come from similar backgrounds, which makes their partnership easy.

“Of course. We come from the same neighborhoods, been through the same things – with not the exact same story obviously – but we’ve been through some of the same things, some of the same struggles,” JAY-Z said. “And, again, like I said, that responsibility is not lost on us.”

Jay’s credits do not stop there. Next month, “Free Meek,” will premiere on Amazon. The five-part docu-series, which was produced by Jay, will detail Meek’s efforts with criminal justice reform. In the past, Jay has been very vocal about his interest in criminal justice.

Back in 2017, the 4:44 rapper produced TIME: The Kalief Browder Story. The six-part docuseries shed light on a teenager who killed himself after spending two years in solitary confinement.

Congrats to JAY-Z on his latest project.
