Tay-K is facing a 55-year prison sentence for his involvement in a 2016 home invasion that left one person dead. The 19-year-old rapper was facing five to 99 years.

During his trial, Tay-K pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery and not guilty to capital murder as well as aggravated robbery. Three years ago, Tay-K, also known as Taymor Mintyre, and his associates were accused of a home invasion that ended in the murder of Ethan Walker. Walker’s roommate and girlfriend were left injured. Back in 2017, Tay-K and another suspect removed their ankle monitor and went on the run for three months, despite being on house arrest.

After the trial, Richard Walker, Ethan Walker’s father, took the stand and thanked the jurors and the judge for their ruling. “Every lyric to ‘The Race’ is stained with my son’s blood. Every ‘free Tay-K’ T-shirt that was ever sold has my son’s blood on it,” Walker allegedly said.

Yesterday, the jury was presented with the music video and lyrics to Tay-K’s 2017 single “The Race,” which they claim hints at the violence led by the rapper. “I can’t stomach it,” the prosecutor told the courtroom. “It’s in the lyrics. There’s no better insight into this man’s character than that video.”

“F–k a beat, I was tryna beat a case/But I ain’t beat that case, b—h I did the race,” he says in reference to his three-month run.

Diving deeper into the lyrics, Tay-K appears to detail the crime which he was arrested for. “We was plottin’, y’all was tryna get the pack in/Get the pack in, you get robbed for a fraction.”

Tay-K is also facing a separate murder charge for an alleged shooting that took place in Chick-Fil-A in San Antonio, back in April of 2017.
