R. Kelly’s crisis manager, Darrell Johnson, has decided to resign.

After appearing on CBS This Morning yesterday (July 22), Johnson resigned the same night. Although he doesn’t get specific, Johnson stated that he’s choosing to step down for “personal reasons.”

“I step down as crisis manager for personal reasons. Mr. Kelly is in good hands with Mr. Greenberg,” Johnson said.

During his conversation with Gayle King, Johnson was asked whether or not he would allow his daughter to spend time alone with R. Kelly. Johnson stated that he wouldn’t allow anyone accused of pedophilia to spend time with his daughter.

“I would not leave my daughter with anyone that’s accused of being a pedophile. I would not,” he said in response to King.

Although there is a lot of evidence involved in Kelly’s case, Johnson tried his best to defend his former-client during the duration of the interview. Throughout his time of working with the entertainer, Johnson hasn’t seen anything suspicious and believes Kelly to be a “normal person.”

“Here’s what I say: I never call anybody a liar,” Johnson replied in an effort to defend his former-client. “I came on seven months ago. I walked into a front door, and I seen Mr. Kelly being a normal person …. Mr. Kelly was recording. Twenty minutes later, [the two women] walked in with shopping bags, no security, free [to go], doing what they wanted to do, and I spent a lot of time with Mr. Kelly. And I still say my eye is trained. I haven’t seen anything that would cause me to be suspicious.”

Kelly is currently facing up to 195 years in prison in Chicago. Recently, he was charged with 13 new federal charges including child pornography and obstruction of justice. During a court appearance on July 16, the “Happy People” singer was denied bond.
