Although recent reports suggest that A$AP Rocky has remained behind Swedish bars due to race, the New York rapper doesn’t buy that.
Rocky believes that race is not an issue in his assault case, according to a new report from TMZ that was published today (July 22). Sources also report that if Rocky hints at a potential race issue that matters would take a turn for the worst. Rocky has now spent a total of three weeks in jail. A final decision regarding his case will be made on Thursday.
Last week, G-Eazy went on Twitter to share his point of view regarding Rocky’s case. He recalled getting arrested for assault and cocaine possession in Sweden, back in May of 2018. After receiving the same charge as Rocky, suspicion of assault, he was offered a deal within two days of being in jail. The “No Limit” rapper believes it’s because of his “white privilege.”
“This is the sad truth…The difference between me and Rocky’s treatment in Sweden brings to mind two concepts that disgustingly go hand in hand: white privilege and systemic racism,” Eazy wrote on Twitter. “Let’s call it what it is. He should not be behind bars right now. My heart goes out to @asvpxrocky.”
As the weeks go on, everyone is chiming in to see what can be done. Last week, President Donald Trump spoke in favor of Rocky.
“A$AP Rocky is a situation in Sweden, a great country, and friends of mine and the leadership,” Trump said. “And we’re going to be talking to them, we’ve already started. Many, many members of the African-American community have called me, friends of mine, and said can you help? I personally don’t know A$AP Rocky but I can tell you he has tremendous support from the African American community in this country. When I say African American, I think I can really say from everybody in this country because we’re all one.”
