Representative Ilhan Omar was greeted with open arms as she returned home in Minnesota yesterday (July 18).
While arriving at Minneapolis-St Paul airport, Omar received an outpour of support from those who were near. The crowd chanted “Welcome home Ilhan.” Earlier this week, Trump attacked the four congresswomen of color stating that they should “go back” where they “came from.” In a Twitter rant, Trump stated that he can’t stand Omar and her “hatred of our country.” He also stated that Omar’s warm welcome was staged.
“It is amazing how the Fake News Media became ‘crazed’ over the chant ‘send her back’ by a packed Arena (a record) crowd in the Great State of North Carolina, but is totally calm & accepting of the most vile and disgusting statements made by the three Radical Left Congresswomen…” President Donald Trump wrote.
Omar has emphasized that Trump’s behavior can no longer be excused. “I want to remind people that this is what this president and his supporters have turned our country [into] that is supposed to be a country where we allow democratic debate and dissent to take place,” Omar said. “This is not about me; this is about us fighting for what this country truly should be and what it deserves to be.”
Many have chimed in to voice their concern over Trump’s unfair perspective. Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel, has stated that Trump’s actions contradict the strength of American people.
“People of very different nationalities have contributed to the strength of the American people, so these are … comments that very much run counter to this firm impression that I have,” Merkel said.
Cardi B offered her support by posting a photograph of Omar to her Instagram. In her caption, the New York rapper references a Beyoncé lyric from her 2016 single, “Formation.” “You know you that b—h when you cause all this conversation,” she wrote.
