Following A$AP Rocky’s arrest in Sweden earlier this month, the New York rapper has received an outpour of support. Today (July 19), President Donald Trump spoke in favor of Rocky.
“A$AP Rocky is a situation in Sweden, a great country, and friends of mine and the leadership,” Donald Trump said. “And we’re going to be talking to them, we’ve already started. Many, many members of the African-American community have called me, friends of mine, and said can you help? I personally don’t know A$AP Rocky but I can tell you he has tremendous support from the African American community in this country. When I say African American, I think I can really say from everybody in this country because we’re all one.”
This comes on the heels of Kim Kardashian West sending out a tweet thanking the White House for their efforts. Yesterday, we reported that the reality star and Kanye West were doing their best to help with Rocky’s release. The couple reached out to Jared Kushner who got in contact with Trump.
“Thank you @realDonaldTrump, @SecPompeo, Jared Kushner & everyone involved with the efforts to Free ASAP Rocky & his two friends. Your commitment to justice reform is so appreciated,” she wrote on Twitter.
Prosecutors are still investigating Rocky’s case and will make a final decision next week. Rocky will remain behind bars because prosecutors believe that he’s a flight risk, according to TMZ. While being detained, there have been reports of Rocky enduring barbaric conditions such as inedible meals and sleeping on a yoga mat.
Earlier this month, A$AP Ferg explained that Rocky could be looking at six years for his assault case.
“He’s in Sweeden [sic] locked up in solitary confinement with no visit or phone call privileges. They are trying to keep him there for 2 weeks and if convicted he will be looking at 6 years just for defending himself in a fight. He was no way in [sic] form the aggressor in this ordeal. Pray for justice #freeflacko,” he wrote.
