Cardi B claps back at Jermaine Dupri's comments regarding female rappers
Cardi B responds to Jermaine Dupri’s comments that female rappers rap about the same thing.
Jermaine Dupri has found himself to be the victim of Cardi B’s wrath.
Yesterday (July 11), Dupri spoke with People Now in an effort to promote his new documentary, Power Influence & Hip Hop: The Rise of So So Def. He explains that since Da Brat, there hasn’t been any female rappers who sell a lot of records and rap about multiple topics. After being asked about notable names such as Cardi, Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion, Dupri says that their message is repetitive.
“I feel they’re all rapping about the same thing,” he said. “I don’t think they’re showing us who’s the best rapper. For me, it’s like strippers rapping and as far as rap goes I’m not getting who’s the best.”
After catching wind of his comments, Cardi B hopped on Instagram to share her thoughts.
“Okay guys I have seen a lot of people saying nowadays female rappers only talk about their p–sy and s–t, and now that Jermaine Dupri brought it up, I’m going to say something,” she began. “First of all, I rap about my p–sy because she’s my best friend and second of all it’s because it seems like that’s what people want to hear.”
Deeper into her rant, the Album of the Year winner explains that when she tried spitting about other topics, her fans weren’t feeling it. She says she will give the people what they want to hear.
“It seems like that’s what people want to hear. I ain’t even gonna front because let me tell you something. When I did ‘Be Careful,’ people was talking mad s–t in the beginning, like, ‘what the f–k is. This is not what I expected,’ she said. “If that’s what people isn’t trying to hear, then it’s like, alright, I’mma start rapping about my p–sy again.”
