Joyner Lucas wants to pay his respects for a fallen teen who is from his hometown.
According to MassLive, 18-year-old Tafar Lewis was fatally shot Tuesday night in Worcester. The young man was an aspiring rapper who went by the stage name of “June Valentino.” After Lucas caught wind of the news on social media, he made it clear that he wanted to lend a helping hand.
“I wanna pay for his funeral. If you know his family, have them reach out to Danny Diaz and I’ll take care of it,” he wrote.
More recently, Lucas made a guest appearance on Chris Brown’s track “Need a Stack.” The track has sparked a lot of controversy in the hip-hop community due to Brown’s song lyric: “only wanna f–k the black b—hes with the nice hair.” Lucas has made no comment on the matter at hand.
Throughout his career, Lucas has always looked at the bigger picture. The 30-year-old rapper revealed that he thinks of a visual first then the song.
“I take the video-first approach,” Lucas explained while visiting REVOLT TV’s New York studio. “I write the video treatment before I come up with the actual [music]. Once I know what the video is going to be about, I go and create the record around the structure of the video. That approach works for me. That’s my lane. That’s what I do. The typical, average Joyner Lucas fan, they love that about me. That’s what they look forward to and that’s what they’re gonna get a lot of.”
There is no word yet on when Tafar Lewis’ funeral will take place or if Lucas will be in attendance.
