Earlier this week, Lil Nas X confirmed his sexuality to which he’s received mixed emotions from fans.

In an interview with BBC today (July 5), Lil Nas spoke on the backlash he’s received. The “Old Town Road” rapper explained that he’s not phased by opinions on social media because he knows that people are looking for a reaction.

“I used to be that person being negative,” he said while speaking on the negativity. “I’m not angry or anything [about it], because I understand how they just want that reaction.”

Elsewhere during the conversation, Lil Nas X admitted that he considered keeping his sexuality a secret but ultimately decided to change his mind.

“I don’t want to just live my entire life, especially how I got to where I’m at, just not doing what I want to do,” he said. “I’m also, I feel like, opening the doors for more people.”

Earlier this week, the 7 rapper sent what appears to be a scary message on Instagram. He uploaded a photograph of an emoji wearing a cowboy hat while holding a gun. He wrote as the caption: “say one more home of phobic thing to me.”

While on Twitter, Lil Nas X suggested that his fans listen to “C7osure (You Like),” which vaguely hints at his sexuality. “Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to ‘c7osure,’” Lil Nas X wrote as a tweet.

After giving the song a closer listen, fans were able to point out the subtle references to his sexual orientation.

“Brand new places I’ll choose and I’ll go, I know/Embracin’ this news I behold unfolding/I know, I know, I know it don’t feel like it’s time/But I look back at this moment, I’ll see that I’m fine/I know, I know, I know it don’t feel like it’s time/I set boundaries for myself, it’s time to cross the line,” he raps.
