J. Cole has been especially generous this week. After building anticipation for his Dreamville imprint’s third collaborative project, Revenge of the Dreamers III, earlier this year, the label boss shared that the long-awaited album will be released this Friday (July 5).

To help further add to the excitement, the Dreamville camp also premiered an accompanying documentary.

The film, which runs just under a half hour, is centered on the making of the album, during which Cole and his team invited various collaborators to convene in a shared creative space.

“I had this idea,” J. Cole said, explaining the conception. “Let’s go somewhere, lock-in and invite a bunch of outside producers and artists to come f–k with us and just make this album.”

In addition to the label’s signees, such as Ari Lennox, JID, EarthGang, Bas, Cozz, Omen and Lute, others such as DJ Khaled, Swizz Beatz, T.I., 9th Wonder, Wale, Big K.R.I.T., Mike Will Made It, Ski Mask the Slump God and Rick Ross, among others, were also in the building.

The documentary, aptly titled Revenge, also includes insight from label president Ibrahim Hamad and other key players.

“Cole’s like, ‘Man, we should make invitations,’” Hamad shared of the concept. “I was like, ‘Damn, that’s actually kinda genius.’ We literally got it out to people the day we got here, when we were supposed to do it ahead of time. That day, we just started seeing people posting, posting, posting.”

He continues, “That s–t just took on a life of its own. Not only was the whole internet talking and wanting to know what was happening, but now it opened the door for other people who wanted to come through.”
