Will Smith's 'Aladdin' becomes his highest-grossing film

Will Smith explained that Aladdin has officially become his highest-grossing movie.

While on Instagram, the 50-year-old actor shared the exciting news with his fans. After explaining how humbled and honored he is, Smith said thank you in a variety of languages.

“This is a post that I’m just humbled and honored to make right now,” he said. “Today, Aladdin just passed Independence Day as the highest grossing film of my entire career. To be in this game as long as I’ve been in this game, and to have my biggest movie at this point in my career, I just want to say thank you.”

Aladdin grossed over $824 million at the global box office. Throughout his monumental career, Smith has snagged significant roles in well-known films such as Bad Boys, Suicide Squad, Hancock, Men in Black II, and many more.

Back in May at the film’s release party, Smith explained that he had the time of his life filming Aladdin.

“I can honestly say this was the most fun I had making a movie, and one of the greatest experiences of my professional career,” said Smith at the film’s Hollywood premiere. “I’ve made some good movies and some questionable ones like ‘Wild Wild West!’ But this one is so special. I took a couple of years off, and Aladdin really helped me find meaning again in my heart and soul for performing.”

Elsewhere during the premiere, Smith explained that he signed on for the Guy Ritchie-directed film because of its powerful themes.

“The idea about self-worth: being yourself, honoring yourself versus wanting to change yourself for other people, and learning to be confident and to be empowered by who you are is what this movie is all about, and I’m excited to be a part of sharing this message with the world,” he said. “This is why I am an artist—to have a purpose to share messages that can help people.”
