Over the weekend (June 22), Nipsey Hussle’s eldest child, Emani Asghedom, graduated from elementary school. During the ceremony, the 10-year-old paid homage to her late father.
According to videos posted from fans’ Instagram accounts, Asghedom thanked her father for his continuous support throughout her life.
“I want to begin by sharing my thankfulness for my mom for believing in me, and my dad, for always being there for me,” she said.
Unsurprisingly, Asghedom had a lot of support in the audience. The 10-year-old’s mother, Tanisha Foster, was in attendance, in addition to her aunt, Samantha Smith and 2-year-old brother, Kross Asghedom.
Following the rapper’s untimely death back in March, Smith has been working religiously to keep custody of her niece. Nipsey’s family believes that Foster is an unfit mother based on her history with her own children. Foster has an 18-year-old daughter who has a history of juvenile facilities. In addition to that, Foster’s 17-year-old son has reportedly been moving from countless homes and has an inconsistent school attendance record. A court hearing is scheduled for next month.
Despite the custody drama, the marathon continues. Last night (June 23), The Victory Lap rapper was posthumously honored with the Humanitarian Award at the 2019 BET Awards, which his family accepted on his behalf. BET also changed the color of the carpet to blue in honor of Neighborhood Nip.
All the same, BET wasn’t the only one to honor Nipsey as of recently. Last week, Nipsey’s longtime girlfriend, Lauren London, paid homage to the slain rapper. The ATL actress posted a heartfelt tribute on Father’s Day.
“One of the reasons I fell in Love with you…. Your Fatherhood,” London wrote as her caption. “Today we celebrate You Love you Ermias.”
