Although Young Thug’s 27th birthday culminated in his being arrested while celebrating the release of Slime Language last year, the Atlanta rapper now has a new victory to celebrate.
After being arrested in Hollywood at a listening party taking place at a Dave & Buster’s back in August 2018, he was charged with concealing a weapon in a vehicle. As reported by TMZ (June 19), the District Attorney’s office in Los Angeles has now officially dropped the felony gun charge stemming from the matter, citing “insufficient evidence.”
As previously reported, the situation unfolded after a car that Thugger was riding in was rear-ended by a police car, leading authorities to search the vehicle. During the search, they found a concealed weapon. However, due to there being three people who were riding in the car, police were not able to identify who owned the weapon at the time. According to TMZ, the gun showed no trace of Young Thug’s DNA, playing a direct role in the D.A.’s decision to dismiss the charge.
“I commend the District Attorney’s Office for making the right decision after carefully reviewing the facts and body worn video over the past 9 months,” Thug’s lawyer, Michael Goldstein, shared in a statement with TMZ. “The fact so much time and work went into this decision reinforces trust in our system of justice.”
Per TMZ, in addition to no DNA being found on the weapon, the D.A.’s office also clarified that the police car was “unable to stop in time” and therefore hit the car the rapper was riding in, not the other way around.
In related news, Young Thug recently celebrated a new music milestone.
His collaboration with Camila Cabello, “Havana,” has officially been certified Diamond by the RIAA, a landmark achievement that signifies the track hitting 10 million equivalent units.
