T.I. has reportedly signed on to add another credit to his growing acting résumé.

According to Deadline, the Atlanta rapper, entrepreneur and community activist will lend his talents to a new film alongside John Ortiz.

The forthcoming film, aptly titled Flint, centers on the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Mich., following the story of “a spiritually reformed ex-convict who finds himself embroiled in a murder mystery, set upon by his ex-lover and a young mentee that unravels the very fabric of the water crisis afflicting the community he grew up in.”

The movie will be produced by Will Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment. Per Deadline, the film’s script was penned by Malcolm M. Mays, who will also direct. Executive producers for the project are listed as Overbrook’s Caleeb Pinkett and James Lassiter, as well as T.I., and Brian Sher from Grand Hustle Films. The late director John Singleton, who was a mentor and close friend of Mays’, has also been credited with helping bring the film to fruition.

Most recently, Tip appeared on the big screen last summer in Disney/Marvel’s Ant-Man. He currently has two upcoming films gearing up to hit theaters, starring in Dolemite is My Name alongside Eddie Murphy and in the RZA-directed Cut Throat City. Ortiz’s credits include Bumblebee, The Cloverfield Paradox, and Kong: Skull Island, as well as the upcoming Netflix series, “Messiah,” and James Gray’s Ad Astra.

While the impact the water crisis has had on the film’s characters will be evident throughout the film, the extent the plot will explore the complicated and devastating situation in-depth remains to be seen.

At the time of this report, Flint has no release date but it is exciting to see Tip secure a leading role and continue to build his repertoire on screen. More details to follow.
