A documentary about Mac Miller’s life has been postponed for now.

On Monday (June 3), filmmaker C.J. Wallis (Perfect Bid) confirmed he was developing the project in a series of tweets. “So, over the next year I’m going to start collecting interviews & content to make the definitive [Mac Miller] documentary for his family, friends & fans,” he wrote. “Please share & tag anyone you think we need to speak with!”

Wallis later revealed he received “an outpouring of love” following his call for contributors to the project which was initially slated for release next year. “[T]he volume of personal experiences and outpouring of love you are showing mac via my DMs is unbelievable,” he tweeted.

However, on Tuesday (June 4), Wallis announced a change of plans.

“UPDATE: We tweeted our intentions to begin developing a doc on Mac over the next year. At the same time, we reached out to all those closest to him to begin the process of making it official,” he wrote.

“We heard back from Christian Clancy (Miller’s manager) & The Estate who said the family has requested we hold off on the project at this time. We immediately compiled as the last thing we’d want is to negatively impact anyone involved, quite the opposite.”

Wallis went on to explain that he felt “comfortable” announcing his plans to make a documentary because “[t]he concept was peers telling their one favorite Mac story & cutting them together as a motivational & positive picture. Not a life story.”

The filmmaker called the support for the proposed project “humbling” and added that “in time perhaps we will get to see it through.” He concluded, “For now, we have hours of incredible music and thats always been more than enough. Respect/Love.”

According to Deadline, the documentary would have been released via Margrette Bird Pictures, a film company Wallis co-founded. In September 2018, Miller passed away at the age of 26. His death was ruled as an accidental overdose. Keep reading to see Wallis’ tweets in full for yourself.
