Nipsey Hussle‘s impact on his peers continues to unveil in the months following his death.

After the beloved rapper was tragically gunned down in Los Angeles on March 31, several celebrities paid their respects with heartfelt tributes across social media.

Fellow California native and rapper YG also shared his reaction to hearing the news. “It wasn’t your time to go,” he wrote on Instagram days after Hussle’s passing. The Stay Dangerous emcee (real name Keenon Jackson) admitted he took “so long” to speak on Hussle’s death because he “[didn’t] wanna believe it.” YG and Hussle were longtime friends before making it in the music industry.

Ahead of the release of his latest album, 4REAL 4REAL, the 29-year-old sat down with Big Boy on Real 92.3 and opened up about feeling “f—ked up” releasing music after Hussle was murdered. “I’m like, ‘Damn, my music ain’t even about to represent this s—t.’ It was just weird,” he shared.

YG says he decided to put out the project out after pushing it back several weeks once he spoke to Hussle’s family and brother, Samiel Asghedom. “They [were] like ‘Bro, [he] would want you to put your music out and turn up,’” he recalled.

He also explained his decision to pay tribute to Hussle in his 4REAL 4REAL album artwork and revealed he will give a percentage of every song on the album to Hussle’s two children. “[By] the time they get 18, from me, they’re gonna have a bag sitting there,” he declared.

Elsewhere in the interview, YG discussed his thoughts on Fox News host Laura Ingraham mocking Hussle’s death and cleared up his comments when he tweeted he had “1 more album left” after his latest. Watch the insightful interview ahead. 4REAL 4REAL is out everywhere now.
