T.I. continues to set an example for the others, navigating through the worlds of music, entertainment, social justice and entrepreneurship with passion and wisdom alike.

As announced on Tuesday (May 21), the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) will be honoring the Atlanta heavyweight’s efforts and accomplishments with the inaugural Voice of the Culture Award. According to the organization, the award has been established as a way to celebrate songwriters and artists who have had an influence on music and culture.

“T.I. has conquered the worlds of music, TV, and film, helping to popularize a new sub-genre of music in the process,” Paul Williams, ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President, shared in a press release. “His significant contributions to hip-hop music, support for other artists through his record label, philanthropy, community activism, and memorable onscreen roles have had a profound impact on today’s music and culture. There is no one more deserving to receive the inaugural ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award.”

Throughout T.I.’s 20-year career, he has established himself as a leader in various industries, as well as has garnered a reputation for his philanthropy work, such as through his non-profit, Harris Community Works. Most recently, Tip launched a $25,000 scholarship fund in honor of his late sister, Precious Chapman.

In addition to the trap music pioneer being celebrated, ASCAP will also honor Motown Records. The legendary record label, which is currently in its 60th year, will be recognized with the Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award, an award that tributes those with an undeniable impact on the legacy of Rhythm & Soul Music. Over the years, ASCAP has celebrated the likes of Smokey Robinson, Chaka Khan, Earth, Wind & Fire and Bill Withers in the same category.

T.I. and representatives from Motown will be presented with the honor during the 32nd annual Rhythm & Soul Awards ceremony, which is set to take place on June 20 in Los Angeles.
