Miami rap duo City Girls have been experiencing an exciting rise in popularity, finding success with projects such as Girl Code and Period. However, while the group continues to win over new fans, one-half of the duo has been serving a prison sentence for much of last year.

According to a new report from The Blast (May 14), JT was denied early release for good behavior. As a result, she will likely be serving out the remainder of her sentence.

As reported, the Quality Control rapper’s legal team filed a motion requesting that she be released early and transferred to a halfway house, a best-case scenario that would allow her to get back to work and in the studio with Yung Miami as soon as possible.

According to court documents, JT says she has earned 108 days of good conduct time credit. With this in mind, as of July 12, 2019, she will have completed “15.6 months (12 months plus 3.6 months earned good time credit), thereby leaving 8.4 months of her sentence to be served.”

Her legal team is arguing that due to her rising celebrity, the likelihood that she’d be a repeat offender is very low. JT was initially arrested and convicted of charges related to identity theft. Under her original sentence, she was ordered to complete 24 months behind bars, which would allow her to receive her exact release date in 2020.

“It is without hesitation that I can proffer that you will never hear from this Defendant regarding any type of crime, much less an economic one,” a statement from her lawyer reads. “Granting this recommendation will allow the Defendant to get back to the studio where she belongs.”

While her application was denied, it is reported that the judge would like the Bureau of Prisons to make the decision, which means that the warden of the correctional facility could approve the early release motion instead.

Prior to JT beginning her sentence, City Girls recorded 2018’s Girl Code, as well as shot a variety of music videos in order to help the group continue adding to their momentum. Yung Miami has since been featured in music videos with Cardi B and Kodak Black, continuing to hold down her partner in crime as best as she can given the circumstance.
