In addition to focusing on his ongoing legal battle with ICE and giving back to the youth community through his Bank Account initiative, 21 Savage is now making time for his own career in music.
As announced on Tuesday (May 7), the Atlanta-based rapper is gearing up to hit the road and he’s bringing DaBaby along for the ride as a supporting act. The scheduled headlining North American tour will double as a celebration of his most recent album, 2018’s I Am > I Was, and will mark his first time touring the project exclusively.
The summer trek is set to begin on July 21 in Oklahoma City and will include pitstops in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago before it is set to wrap up at his hometown venue, Atlanta’s Coca Cola Roxy, on Aug. 16. Those interested in copping tickets can do so beginning on Friday (May 10) via LiveNation.com. The tour will also include a limited number of VIP packages featuring early entry, exclusive merchandise and the opportunity to do a meet and greet with the artists.
As he prepares for his upcoming month-long tour, the rapper has remained tactfully selective about opening up regarding the challenges he’s been facing in regards to obtaining legal citizenship in the United States. His co-manager, Justin “Meezy” Williams, recently spoke on the subject in a recent interview for Billboard’s April 21 cover story.
“He’s not really a big talker; he lets his music speak for itself,” Williams said, reflecting on the subject of 21 Savage opening up about his experiences following his ICE arrest. “As his manager, I would love for him to speak [in his lyrics] about being detained. I think eventually it will be in the music, because he’s becoming such a big voice.”
Elsewhere during the feature, it was revealed that 21 Savage is currently sitting on roughly two albums’ worth of unreleased music. With his upcoming tour on the horizon, there is a possibility the rapper will debut some of his new material during his live set but fans can definitely look forward to hearing cuts off the recently Gold-certified I Am > I Was album.
Most recently, 21 Savage lent his talents to the ScHoolboy Q cut, “Floating,” appearing on the TDE artist’s CrasH Talk album.
