Legendary director John Singleton, who died earlier this week at the age of 51, will be laid to rest in a private funeral on May 6 in Los Angeles, TMZ reports.

The ceremony is closed off to the public and will be “a very small, intimate goodbye for family and very close friends,” according to Page Six. Singleton’s family is reportedly planning a larger public event for May 21, but are still working out the details.

Singleton passed away on April 29 after suffering a stroke. As we previously reported, the director checked himself into a hospital after returning home from Costa Rica. Almost two weeks after slipping into a coma, Singleton’s family made the decision to take him off of life support. Shortly after his death, Singleton’s mom revealed that the director secretly suffered from hypertension for years, and it probably triggered the stroke.

On Friday (May 3), Singleton’s mom, Sheila, filed his will in court. According to TMZ, the will was created in 1993 and listed his daughter Justice as the beneficiary of his 3.8 million estate. His mother will reportedly have custody of his two youngest children.

On May 2, FX announced that season 3 of Singleton’s drama “Snowfall” will return to the network on July 10.

“We are honored and fortunate to have worked with John on ‘The People v. O.J. Simpson’ and the drama series ‘Snowfall’, which he co-created and on which he is an executive producer and director,” FX chairman and CEO John Landgraf said in a statement. “I know that the cast and crew loved John as much as we did, and that they are heartbroken over this news. … We lost an incredibly talented artist, leader, activist, partner and friend — far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”
