John Singleton dies at age 51

  /  04.29.2019

John Singleton has died at the age of 51. About two weeks ago, the Oscar-nominated director/producer/screenwriter suffered a major stroke while he was at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, California. Ever since then, he’s been in the ICU.

There were conflicting reports from different family members of his. Some stated that he was in a coma, while other members said that he wasn’t and was expected to make a full recovery. However, it was later confirmed that Singleton was, indeed, in a coma and also placed on life support. But, two weeks after his stroke, loved ones decided that it was time to remove him from it.

On Monday (April 29), Singleton’s family made the tough choice. “It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today,” a spokesperson for the family said in a statement to Deadline. “This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.”

The statement continued: “We are grateful to his fans, friends and colleagues for the outpour of love and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We want to thank all the doctors at Cedars Sinai for the impeccable care he received.”

Singleton’s loved ones also confirmed that he suffered from hypertension and their statement added that “his family wants to share the message with all to please recognize the symptoms by going to Heart.org.”

The talent created multiple classic movies for the culture that his fans will remember forever. They include Baby Boy, Boyz N The Hood, Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Four Brothers, Rosewood and many more. He even directed a few episodes of hit TV shows such as “Empire,” “American Crime Story,” “Snowfall” and more. Singleton is also credited for directing Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” music video, which is recognized for being one of the great music videos of all-time.

Rest in peace to the movie/TV legend John Singleton and thank you for gifting us with such iconic classics that shared our stories to the world.
