Crayola is being called to rethink one of the titles for its products after fans of Nipsey Hussle drew attention to a since-concluded contest asking for help naming a new crayon color.

While the company officially announced the name of a then-new shade of blue back in 2017, fans of Nipsey Hussle have begun petitioning online for the crayon to be named in honor of the late Los Angeles rapper and entrepreneur.

The crayon was named as part of a fan contest a couple of years ago but given the color and the power of social media, fans have helped bring viral attention to the since-expired competition in hopes of reviving a rebrand. In the wake of Nipsey’s passing, countless tributes have surfaced in his honor, with fans hopeful that his legacy will even impact the craft and school supplies industry.

On social media, many are petitioning for the company to rename the shade “Nipsey Blue,” a suggestion made that much more popular after LeBron James tweeted in response to the now-viral years-old tweet.

Some have also taken to Twitter to suggest that Crayola donate a portion of the proceeds from the special crayon to STEM development programs for kids. Prior to his tragic murder last month, Nipsey launched a STEM center and co-working initiative geared towards providing resources and networking opportunities for the youth in Los Angeles.

The blue crayon making its rounds online was previously named “Bluetiful” after the contest came to a conclusion. The name beat out other suggestions such as “Dreams Come Blue,” “Blue Moon Bliss,” “Reach for the Stars” and others.

While Crayola has not yet addressed the wave of publicity it’s receiving with fans calling for the crayon to be renamed in Nipsey Hussle’s honor, millions of fans across the world continue to honor his legacy, including in the form of a memorial basketball court and by way of supporting his Marathon Clothing store.
