This week has seen a plethora of incredible news from Beyoncé’s camp. After the release of her Homecoming documentary on Netflix and after her magnum opus Lemonade hit all streaming services in celebration of its three-year anniversary, Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, has today (April 24) shared some news of his own.

While Knowles and his daughter have not professionally collaborated since 2011, the manager and businessman has announced he is working on developing a new Broadway musical based on Destiny’s Child.

“I want to pull back the curtain,” he shared in a statement posted on his website. “I feel it’s time to give the world an opportunity to hear, see and feel the victories and failures that I’ve had as a husband, father and manager who risked everything in pursuit of fulfilling dreams – those of mine and others.”

According to Knowles, Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical will premiere next year in Houston as the launch of an accompanying tour. The production, which will be told from his perspective, is being developed for Broadway and London’s West End.

Knowles, who managed Destiny’s Child up until the group disbanded in 2006, is collaborating on the project with writer and producer Je’Caryous Johnson.

Johnson, whose stage credits include Snoop Dogg bio-musical Redemption of a Dogg and Set It Off Live, issued a statement on the project.

“It’s fair, it’s real and it’s an absolute honor to know that Mr. Knowles trusts me to pen and produce such an iconic piece of American history,” he shared.

According to Knowles’ announcement, the production aims to “bare an honest depiction of the achievements, obstacles, and evolution of the world’s most iconic girl group and the mastermind behind them.”

The members of the legendary group, who famously reunited during Beyoncé’s headlining Coachella set in 2018, have not yet addressed the project, which is said to be moving forward independent of their involvement.
