Offset is now facing a felony gun possession charge, TMZ reports.
On Tuesday (April 23), the site exclusively revealed prosecutors have filed three charges against the “Clout” rapper in February stemming from his June 2018 arrest in Georgia. As previously reported, the 27-year-old ended up behind bars after police pulled him over for allegedly making an improper lane change. During the traffic stop, law enforcement officials claimed to discover at least one gun in the car he was driving.
As a convicted felon, Offset (real name Kiari Cephus) is prohibited from owning firearms. According to TMZ, he is also facing a felony charge for possession of firearms by a convicted felon, as well as a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana and another for his alleged lane change.
Offset has pleaded not guilty to the charges last month and is expected to appear in court in May. Fortunately for Cardi B’s hubby, a fourth charge, a felony charge of possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, has been dropped.
In July 2018, Offset’s lawyer, Drew Findling, told TMZ his client was innocent and a victim of racial profiling. “It’s a common theme,” he told the site. “We’re talking about a young, African-American man driving a shiny, beautiful luxury car and clad in designer clothes and watches and jewelry.”
He continued, “Unfortunately people in his genre become a target for law enforcement who think that lifestyle is connected to some illegal activity … and that is a sad statement.”
Findling went on to add that Offset’s assistant, who happens to be a licensed gun holder and was a passenger in his vehicle at the time of the arrest, was the actual owner of the firearm discovered at the scene.
Offset’s attorney claimed the Atlanta native’s assistant traveled with the gun as a security measure due to the fact that the Migos rapper often carries large sums of cash on him and dons expensive jewelry. Offset posted $17,000 bail shortly after his initial arrest and has yet to respond to the recent reports about his charges.
