On Friday (April 19), Netflix released the full trail for “When They See Us,” a four-part limited series centering on the lives of five New York City teenagers who were wrongfully accused and later convicted of a 1989 rape and murder.

The project, whose trailer’s release coincides with 30 years to the date of the brutal attack of a woman jogging in Central Park, covers the entire 25 years between the April 10, 1989 and the 2014 settlement between the city of New York and the five men, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise, who ranged in ages from 14-16 when they were first questioned by police. The series is set to show the events from the perspectives of the five boys, who came to be known across national media as the “Central Park Five.”

Ava DuVernay, who co-wrote and directed the series, shared the trailer on Twitter, along with pointing out how at the time, Donald Trump infamously called for the five boys to be executed. During the trailer, the full-page newspaper ad he took out can be seen briefly.

“On this exact day 30 years ago, a woman was raped in Central Park. Five black + brown boys were framed for her rape,” she captioned her post. “The story you know is the lie that police, prosecutors and Donald Trump told you. WHEN THEY SEE US is the story of the boys from their eyes and their hearts.”

The cast includes Michael K. Williams, Joshua Jackson, Niecy Nash, Framke Janssen and Felicity Huffman, among others.

DuVernay previously issued a statement on her decision to not include a reference to the “Central Park Five.”

“Korey, Anton, Raymond, Kevin and Yusef also tell the story of many young people of color unjustly ensnared in the criminal justice system,” she explained in a statement. “We wanted to reflect this perspective in our title, embracing the humanity of the men and not their politicized moniker.”
