James Harden vows to carry Nipsey Hussle's legacy forever
“This journey that I’m on is for him.”
Nipsey Hussle, who spent ample time sitting courtside and enjoying the valor of professional basketball, continues to be celebrated on the court.
On Wednesday (April 17), after the Houston Rockets defeated the Utah Jazz, Los Angeles native and Rockets point guard James Harden spoke on the late rapper’s legacy during a press conference.
During the conference, a reporter inquired about his chain, which features a portrait of Nipsey, who was fatally shot on March 31.
“That name will never die. People will remember him,” Harden shared. “He’s one of my close friends.”
He then made a vow to Nipsey, explaining how he is dedicated to carrying the Grammy Award-nominated artist’s mission forward.
“This journey that I’m on is for him; it’s plain and simple,” he noted. “That name, Nip, everybody knows that name now. I’m just another person helping that name live on.”
Harden, whose friendship with Nipsey began when they met at the same middle school in Los Angeles, previously opened up on social media in the wake of the tragic loss.
“BRO!!!! Where did you go?? We had some s–t we was working on!!!! Please don’t leave,” he wrote, sharing a candid photo of himself with Nipsey. “ON GOD imma make sure I finish what we started. NH THE GREAT I love you forever.”
In related news, Russell Westbrook was another NBA player who made sure Nispey’s presence has been felt on the court. As previously reported, he executed a rare triple-double, dedicating the achievement to the late rapper.
“Grateful to play the game, but that wasn’t for me, man,” he said after scoring 20 points, 20 rebounds and 21 assists. “That was for my bro, man. That was for Nipsey. Rest in peace to Nipsey, man. I’m just thankful to go out there and compete at a high level, man. Thankful to have these teammates. Thankful and humbled to go out there and play the game I love.”
