Coinciding with Donald Glover headlining Coachella (as Childish Gambino), the multi-hyphenate is also gearing up to premiere his hour-long film, Guava Island.

The film, which was shot largely in secret in Havana, features Rihanna, Glover, Nonso Anozie and Letitia Wright and was written by Glover’s brother, Stephen. Filming last summer over the course of four weeks, the movie has long been the subject of speculation, especially given the air of secrecy that surrounds it.

As announced by Amazon on Thursday (April 11), Guava Island, which will premiere live at Coachella, will be made available for free via Amazon Prime. Per the announcement, the film will be available on the streaming platform free of charge for 18 hours beginning at 12:01 AM P.T. on Saturday.

Following this, the movie will stream once on Amazon’s Twitch platform at 5PM PT on Saturday before being made exclusively available to Amazon Prime Video subscribers.

“I’m really humbled having the opportunity to present something this timely and timeless,” Glover said in a brief press release.

A trailer for the film was first released back in November 2018. The main premise that is known at this time is that the film is about two lovers living abroad, is largely music-driven and explores themes of freedom.

Hiro Murai, who directed the film, referred to the shoot as a “crazy fever dream of a production” over “four incredible weeks spent in Cuba.” Glover and Murai are longtime collaborators, working together on both “Atlanta” and the music videos for “This Is America” and “Sober.”
