R. Kelly has been vocalizing his struggle to fans this year, reminding others just how hard he is going through it and asking others to “go easy on him.”

In addition to facing 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse for allegedly assaulting three underage girls and one adult woman, the singer is also experiencing an ongoing period of financial hardship, a situation that appears to be getting worse as the year presses on.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the singer’s former landlord, Midwest Commercial Funding, is looking to collect the colossal amount of owed back rent. The company previously accused Kelly of not paying rent on the studio space in Chicago and took legislative action.

As reported, the landlord company recently issued a subpoena to Sony Music Holdings, Inc. and was successful in getting the company to freeze $264,535 from Kelly’s biannual royalty account. Now, Midwest is asking the court “to allow them to retrieve the money from Sony,” which will then clear the singer of his debt with the rental company.

According to The Blast, Midwest has already collected $154,527.22 from one of Kelly’s accounts and is seeking the remaining $53,000 to absolve Kelly of the debt. Back in January 2019, the city investigated the recording studio and hit him with 66 code violations.

As previously reported, the record label parted ways with the embattled singer earlier this year amid the backlash from the Lifetime docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly.”

This past weekend, R. Kelly reportedly was paid $22,000 for an hourlong club appearance. Fans were reportedly charged $100 at the door, and later, due to a low turnout, admission was lowered to $50 a person. During the singer’s appearance, he sang for approximately 28 seconds and took photos with supporters.
