The LAPD has issued a search warrant to track down the person (or persons) they believe attempted murder at Nipsey Hussle’s vigil last week.
As previously reported, 19 people were injured at the memorial which took place one day after Hussle was gunned down in front of his Marathon clothing store. Fans gathered at the site to honor the late rapper and his contributions to the community before things took a turn for the worse. Shots were reportedly fired at the event prompting thousands of mourners to flee for their safety.
Paramedics were called to the scene to treat the wounded after the stampede. Shortly after, LAPD released a statement clarifying reports of a shooting, saying, “Our men and women are on scene and making every effort to protect everyone in attendance at the Nipsey Hussle vigil. Reports of shots fired at the vigil do not appear to be accurate.” However, it now seems officials have new evidence that proves otherwise.
On Monday (April 8), TMZ obtained the search warrant issued by the LAPD which confirms two people were shot at the vigil. One woman was reportedly shot in the lower back/buttocks and another unidentified person was struck in the elbow. The woman shot in the buttocks reportedly told police she heard “loud, rapid succession of gunshots from an unknown direction.”
Police are seeking permission from a judge to seize video footage from local businesses in the strip mall area where Hussle’s clothing store is located. According to the affidavit, the LAPD believes the footage will show “the events leading up to, and after the attempted murder of unknown Victim.” The businesses have not been compliant with law enforcement thus far, with all of them reportedly refusing to turn over their equipment.
Meanwhile, Hussle’s official funeral and memorial service will take place on Thursday (April 11) at the Staples Center. The public event is being dubbed “Nipsey Hussle’s Celebration of Life” and tickets are available for free for fans who live in California via AXS.com. Hussle’s family reportedly chose the venue to accommodate the “massive crowd” who are expected to gather to say their final goodbyes to the slain rapper.
