Jhené Aiko to postpone music release out of respect for Nipsey Hussle
The R&B singer explains why she’ll be delaying her next project “until the time is right.”
As many can attest, it doesn’t feel right in the wake of Nipsey Hussle’s murder to listen to much else at the moment. As exemplified by fans helping catapult the late rapper’s Grammy-nominated Victory Lap album back into the charts, countless across the world are turning to Nipsey’s music to help honor his legacy and mourn his passing.
While the world adjusts to life without the Los Angeles visionary leading the way, many artists are taking a moment to honor his legacy by way of postponing their own upcoming releases. Artists such as YG, ScHoolboy Q, Machine Gun Kelly, Kash Doll, Alchemist, Conway and most recently, Jhené Aiko have each decided to delay releasing their new music out of respect to the late rapper.
This week, Aiko noted her plans to delay her music, explaining that, out of respect to Nipsey Hussle, she’d like to hold off until the timing feels better.
“Out of respect for Nipsey, I will be postponing the release of the new music I planned on releasing this month, until I feel the time is right,” Aiko commented in response to a fan asking about her next release. “I want to take this time to remember and reflect on the life of the legendary Nipsey Hussle. Thank you for understanding.”
Both natives of Los Angeles, Aiko and Nipsey developed a close friendship over the years, with the rapper even appearing in the “hood edition” of her “Never Call Me” music video.
Given their bond, as well as how the music community is coping following the loss of such an integral figure, it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that Aiko is following in the footsteps of those who have decided to take a moment to honor Nipsey’s legacy by way of holding space for this time in history.
As reported, Nipsey’s memorial is set to be held on Thursday (April 11) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
