Best known for the cult classic films The Inkwell and Straight Out of Brooklyn, Matty Rich is making a triumphed return to cinema after a 25-year sabbatical with T.I. cast as the lead in his new feature film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rich’s latest film, Caller 100, is a thriller about a popular radio personality that has his life turned upside down after an encounter with a female listener. This latest project adds to T.I.’s ever-growing acting resume. Later this year, he will star opposite of Eddie Murphy in the Netflix’s biopic of comedian Rudy Ray Moore called Dolemite Is My Name!. Next year, he will star in the film Monster Hunter based on the Capcom video game of the same name. Tip is also working on the sequel to his 2006 film debut, ATL.

Back in 1991, 19-year-old Rich caught the eyes of fans and critics alike when he made the film Straight Out of Brooklyn. Following in the steps of Robert Townsend and Spike Lee, Rich funded his debut film by maxing out his credit cards and collecting donations from friends and family. The film went on to win the special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival and the Indie Spirit Award for best first feature.

His better known follow-up film, The Inkwell, starred the who’s who of Black Hollywood like Larenz Tate, Jada Pinkett Smith, Morris Chestnut, Suzzane Douglas and Vanessa Bell Calloway. The film wasn’t as well received as its predecessor, resulting in all follow-up projects by Rich to be stalled.

Ultimately, Rich left Hollywood for Paris where he dominated the video game world. He directed and oversaw the production of the game “187 Ride or Die,” and has continued to develop games under his Matty Rich Games banner.

A release date for Caller 100 has yet to be announced.
