The outpour of love for Nipsey Hussle continues.

On Monday (April 1), a non-profit organization officially launched a petition to rename the Los Angeles intersection of Crenshaw Blvd. and Slauson Ave. after Hussle following his passing on Sunday (March 31). “I knew Nipsey Hussle personally. He wasn’t just a rapper. He was a community icon,” the petition reads. The appeal, organized by Project Islamic H.O.P.E., also urges signees to “call or email [Los Angeles] Councilman Harris-Dawson to let him know you support this effort.”

If successful, the renaming would be fitting for the late rapper. The Los Angeles native’s clothing store, Marathon Clothing Company, is currently located on Crenshaw Blvd. and Slauson Ave. Regrettably, it’s also the site where he was tragically gunned down.

As of Wednesday morning (April 3), the petition has reached over 242,000 signatures of its 300,000 goal. The petition easily exceeded its initial goal of just 7,500 signatures.

On Tuesday (April 2), LAPD apprehended the 29-year-old suspect involved in Hussle’s murder. Eric Holder was taken into custody after reportedly fleeing the scene of the crime in the passenger seat of a white Chevy Cruze. The female driver who helped him escape also turned herself into authorities on Tuesday afternoon and was later released. She has not been charged as of yet and claims she had no idea that Holder committed a crime before entering the vehicle.

Later that night, Hussle’s girlfriend Lauren London broke her silence over his untimely death. “I am completely lost. I’ve lost my best friend. My sanctuary. My protector. My soul,” the “ATL” actress shared. “I’m lost without you. We are lost without you babe, I have no words.”

Her post came after fellow “ATL” star and rapper T.I. reflected on the 33-year-old’s death. “I’m disheartened, disappointed and disgusted,” he told TMZ. He called Hussle’s death a classic case of jealousy, citing the important work Hussle was doing in his community and the recent success he had in his career.

One thing is for sure, the world continues to mourn and celebrate the life of the Victory Lap rapper, his music will undoubtedly live on forever.
