Nipsey Hussle’s vigil in Los Angeles on Monday (April 1) was supposed to be a peaceful occasion but quickly turned into a scary one after reports spread of shots being fired at the event.

A total of 19 people were injured outside of Hussle’s clothing store where he was gunned down on Sunday (March 31). According to TMZ, a “loud noise” sent thousands of gatherers dashing to safety and resulted in a stampede. LAPD and paramedics were called to the scene to disperse the large crowd and treat the wounded.

Shortly after, law enforcement released a statement clarifying reports of a possible shooting. “Our men and women are on scene and making every effort to protect everyone in attendance at the Nipsey Hussle vigil,” the LAPD assured, adding, “Reports of shots fired at the vigil do not appear to be accurate. We do have injured in the chaos and are attempting to restore order.”

On Monday evening, LAPD also confirmed a suspect has been identified in Hussle’s murder case. 29-year-old Eric Holder is wanted in connection to the shooting which left Hussle dead and two others wounded. Officials have released an image of Holder, also known as “Shitty,” along with a description of the white four-door Chevy Cruz escape vehicle he allegedly used to flee the crime scene.

“Anyone with information related to his whereabouts or this deadly shooting is urged to contact South Bureau Homicide at 323-786-5100,” a tweet from LAPD’s official Twitter account reads.

Hussle’s death has sent a shockwave across the music industry, with several artists paying their respects to the late rapper on social media this week. “I’m praying with every ounce of my heart for your family. Rest In Peace, Nipsey,” Beyoncé wrote on Instagram Monday evening along with a photo of Hussle as a kid.

Drake also reflected on the 33-year-old’s life at his London show at the O2 Arena last night. “Somebody that provided for his people. Somebody that always treated you with respect when he saw you. Somebody that demanded respect when he walked in a room,” the Toronto native told the audience. “I just want everybody to look around and be grateful and happy that we’re all here together alive and well because life can end at any moment,” he continued. “Cheers, my brother. Rest easy, my G.”
