T.I. had the internet buzzing when he compared himself to the late Tupac Shakur recently.

On Wednesday (March 13), the Atlanta rapper took to Instagram to boast about his impressive career writing, “Any way you slice it… I’m the very best at what I do… impossible to duplicate… accept no substitution!!!”

TIP continued, “When you get done buuuulshittin’… Riddle me this…. Who since 2Pac has maintained as much consistent diversity within music genres, businesses & other opportunities? I’ll wait.”

The Grammy Award winner ended his self-congratulatory post with the hashtags “#KingsThoughts” and “#FactsOverOpinion.” He didn’t have to wait long before Instagram users swarmed his comments with their picks of other hip hop stars also worthy of comparison to Tupac.

One name that came up frequently? JAY-Z. Many fans called out the massive success JAY has achieved both as a rapper and a business mogul. “Respectfully to da goat,” T.I. responded. “[But] what major feature film he [starred] in?”

By his own standards that would mean Ice Cube, Ludacris, and even LL Cool J are also on Tupac’s level. They’ve each starred in major films and released prolific rap albums, as XXL points out.

Interestingly enough, T.I.’s comparison came just two months after criticizing the All Eyez on Me emcee’s music. In January, T.I. appeared in BET’s “Rate the Bars” series and rated the lyrics from Tupac’s “Something Wicked” without knowing the song was written by him. “I give this a one,” he said, the lowest rating on the scale, with five being the highest. “I gave it a one because, it’s, you know: ‘rat, cat, dog, fog, run, fun.’ I’m done,” he told the cameraman disapprovingly.

It certainly wouldn’t be the first bold statement the rapper has made this year. Earlier this month, T.I. defended the late Michael Jackson against child molestation allegations made in HBO’s “Leaving Neverland.” According to TIP, the documentary is part of an agenda to destroy our culture. “If y’all pulling up all our old s—t… we gotta examine ELVIS PRESLEY, HUGH HEPHNER, and a whole slew of others guilty of the same if not more!!! BUT WHY US all the time?” he wrote.
