Blueface’s ascent to the top of the rap game continues with his first mainstream accolade.
As reported by Billboard, the California rapper has earned his first top 10 entry on the Hot 100 chart for the week dated March 9.
The eccentric rapper’s breakout single, “Thotiana,” has climbed the charts from the No. 13 slot to No. 9, signifying his highest ranking track to date. As fans can happily attest, Blueface’s track has been steadily gaining traction since he first released it in late 2018.
Due to his growing social media presence, as well as receiving cosigns in the form of remixes from artists such as Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, YG, Desiigner and Young MA, it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that the song is continuously putting some serious streaming numbers on the board.
Taking to Instagram Monday night (March 4), the Cash Money West rapper acknowledged the impressive career milestone, reacting in the form of posting two CD emojis and a screengrabbed image commemorating the song’s new position on the chart.
Elsewhere in the top 10 for this week, Post Malone occupies two slots, No. 4 for “Sunflower,” his Swae Lee-assisted track appearing in the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the No. 8 slot for his solo offering “Wow.” Additionally, J. Cole’s “Middle Child” cut sits at No. 5, while Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode” rounds out the chart at No. 10.
In addition to experiencing colossal career growth the past year, Blueface unfortunately is also facing a slew of legal troubles. Most recently, the 22-year-old was charged with felony gun possession. He was released on $35,000 bail after spending the night in jail. His manager, Wack 100, has issued a statement maintaining the young rapper’s innocence in the incident.
